Heelis elevated to VFL list

The Sandringham Football Club is excited to announce that Darby Heelis has been elevated to the club’s VFL list.

Heelis represented the Sandringham Dragons in their U16s program in 2023 and in their U18s program in 2025, where he played every role on the ground before settling at half back. 

Known for his aggressive, hard running as a rebounding defender, Heelis was rewarded with a call up to play for the Zebs in a practice match against Tasmania in 2025. His 2025 season at the Dragons consisted of 18 games with four best player appearances.

He was offered a train-on spot with the Zebras this season and plays his local football at Bentleigh in the Southern Football Netball League. 

His speed and courage on the field along with his leadership is something we’re excited to see at the Zebs.

Heelis reflected on his signing,

"Super grateful for this opportunity, keen for the back end of the year!"

We can't wait to see what Darby can bring in the yellow, black and blue for the remainder of the 2026 season!
