We are pleased to announce that Blake Watson has re-signed for the upcoming VFL season.
Versatile mid-forward Blake Watson will return for his third season with the Zebras in 2024.
Since his debut in 2022, Watson has proved himself to be a fierce competitor who is clean with the ball, enabling him to excel in the contest.
This trait is valued by teammates - seeing him take home the Zeal Player of the Year Award in 2022 alongside the Greg Lyons Memorial Trophy for the Most Courageous Player.
Described by Head Coach Jake Batchelor as an ‘inside bull’ who ‘[plays] his role really well’, Watson also possesses plenty of upside as he continues to develop his endurance.
Despite the constant addition and subtraction of St Kilda listed players to our weekly team line-ups, Watson is often amongst the names who continue to keep their spot regardless - once again proving his value to the group.
“We get given a job to do every week and we know what’s required of us,” Watson said.
“Everybody plays their role and all you can do is keep trying to take your opportunity going forward.”
Featuring in 10 games across the 2023 season, he averaged 13 disposals and 2.8 tackles whilst contributing a total of six goals.
Off the field, Watson enjoys having a hit of tennis - a sport he grew up playing - and swears by his pre-game iced latte.
We’re delighted to see him return to Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval in 2024 as he becomes a key pillar of our engine room.
