We faced a tough afternoon at Victoria Park, going down to a strong Collingwood outfit by 53 points in Round 7 of the VFLW season.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, we showed patches of determined effort, led by midfield duo Abbey Tregellis (20 disposals, four tackles) and Winnie Laing (18 disposals, four marks), who battled hard through the middle all day.
Collingwood hit the scoreboard early, kicking the opening two goals with sharp ball movement and forward efficiency. We responded with a clever soccer-style major from Makhaela Bluhm, who worked her opponent under the ball and finished well out the back to get us on the board.
The first term was largely dominated by the Pies, who registered 15 inside 50s to our two. Bella Enno and Imogen Evans were busy early, each picking up six disposals for the quarter.
By half-time, Collingwood had built a 20-point buffer, and while we struggled to generate clean forward entries, Chloe Saultry stood tall in defence, collecting 12 first-half disposals and offering plenty of rebound across half-back.
As the second half unfolded, the Magpies continued to control territory and added five more goals while holding us goalless after quarter time. Laing worked tirelessly and led our disposal count by three-quarter time with 15.
We continued to apply pressure and play the game out with intent. Tregellis capped off a solid individual performance in the midfield, finishing with a team-high 20 disposals and laying four tackles.
We will look to regroup with a bye before facing Carlton at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday 15th June at 11:05am.
