The Sandringham Football Club delivered a commanding performance in Round 4 of the 2025 Smithy's VFL season, overpowering Footscray at Whitten Oval.
The Zebras showcased their depth and cohesion, with several players contributing significantly to the victory.
Midfield Dominance
The midfield was led by Hugh Boxshall, who had an outstanding game with 33 disposals, 11 clearances, and nine tackles. He set the tempo from the beginning, and his relentless pressure and ball-winning ability were crucial in controlling the game early.
Captain Blake Watson supported Boxshall with 22 disposals and seven clearances, exemplifying his two-way running and defensive strength. Angus Hastie and Tobie Travaglia also made a significant impact, each collecting 26 disposals, with Travaglia adding two goals to his performance.
Max Heath proved essential for the Zebras, dominating the ruck with 25 disposals and 25 hit-outs. He used his height effectively around the ground and took nine marks. Despite playing only one half, Harry Boyd contributed significantly by finishing the second quarter with 20 hit-outs.
Defensive Resilience
The backline stood firm against Footscray's advances, with Ethan Williams leading the charge off half-back, collecting 16 disposals and 11 kicks.
Billy Richardson and Angus McLennan supported him, keeping things steady with their cool heads under pressure.
Forward Efficiency
Jonah Campigli was a focal point up forward, booting five goals and had eight tackles. His strong presence and accurate kicking kept the scoreboard ticking. The Zebras' attack was further boosted by contributions from Andrew Mathieson, Ned Maginness, Isaac Keeler, William Johnson, and Alex Dodson, who each added a goal to the tally.
