Introducing our newest recruit – Xander McGuire!
17/11/2025
The Sandringham Football Club is excited to announce our Number 1 Ticket Holder for 2026… Xander McGuire!
Xander, who is currently a Sports Reporter and Host for Channel 7, grew up playing junior footy in Bayside and currently spends a lot of his free time in the area. He has a longstanding connection with the Zebras, both through the Johnstone family and through Trevor Barker, who was a close friend of the McGuire family.
Xander spoke of the importance of football in his life and the broader community,
“Most of my life has centred around footy in different capacities. I grew up within the four walls at Collingwood and was there until after I finished school.
“Being inside a footy club, you realise that although they are big businesses that perform on huge stages – their success often still boils down to how solid they are as a “club”.
“Volunteers and long-serving staff members who do it for the love of the club are what makes the fabric of these organisations.
“Football is often a family outside of family for people – it’s the beating heart of a community, and Sandringham is the perfect example of that. Brimming with people who are passionate about the side, who have helped see it through countless transformations and changes and who have shown up and given support unconditionally for decades.”
Sandringham FC President, Nick Johnstone, spoke of the announcement,
“We are delighted to have Xander as the Club’s Number 1 Ticket Holder. As a standalone club, he epitomises everything we want to be – young, full of energy and a high performing club. Xander has a big future, wants to be involved and is committed to helping us be successful.”
Xander spoke of the importance of the VFL competition and supporting standalone clubs,
“VFL football is incredibly important – not only for the way that it facilitates pathways to the big time, but for the role that it plays in providing a communal area and meeting place for people all across the state.
With the struggles that teams like the Preston Bullants have had in recent times, navigating being a standalone club, it’s never been more important to get down and support VFL footy - and there’s no better place than at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Oval with the Zebs!”
Welcome to the Zebras family Xander, we look forward to you being part of the next chapter in our history!
