Sophie LOCKEs in for 2026
03/03/2026
The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to confirm that Sophie Locke has re-signed for the 2026 VFLW season.
Locke brings valuable AFLW experience and resilience to the Zebs after beginning her elite career with Hawthorn, where she quickly became a memorable figure in the club’s inaugural AFLW campaign. After being recruited from Port Melbourne in the VFLW, the talented forward made an immediate impact, kicking Hawthorn’s first-ever AFLW goal in Round 1 of the 2022 season.
Her debut resonated across the football community, coming just weeks after the passing of her mother, Sarah, with Locke showing tremendous strength and composure as she performed on the big stage.
She went on to play 17 AFLW games across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, showcasing her role as a reliable contributor in the forward line. Before her AFLW opportunity, Locke developed through the Murray Bushrangers program and represented Vic Country at the junior level, showcasing the work ethic and competitiveness that continue to shape her game today.
Reflecting on her signing, Locke said,
“I'm keen for the 2026 season - new year, new squad, same colours & some unfinished business!”
We are thrilled to see Sophie continue her journey with the Zebs in 2026 and look forward to the experience and determination she brings to the group this season.
