The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to confirm that Mel Bertuna has re-signed for the 2026 VFLW season.
Bertuna joined the Sandringham Football Club (then known as the Southern Saints) in 2021, returning for her sixth consecutive season this year.
Making her debut back in 2021 against Collingwood, Bertuna has since played a key role in Sandringham’s VFLW program.
She previously played as a small forward with the Oakleigh Chargers, debuting in 2017, playing 19 games, kicking 13 goals and appearing in the best players three times over her three years at the club. Bertuna later transitioned to her current midfield role at VFLW level, where she has seen great reward for her passion and efforts.
One of her more impressive displays during the 2025 season was her performance against Carlton in Round 3, where she was named among Sandy’s best. Commentators highlighted her relentless midfield pressure and infectious energy that helped secure the tight four-point victory. Another noticeable performance was against Geelong in Round 12, where she had nine disposals and kicked her first goal of the season, contributing to the team’s seven-point victory.
Bertuna is best known as a hard-running, versatile, adaptable midfielder, applying pressure to her opponents and has the ability to win the contested ball all over the ground.
Reflecting on her signing, Bertuna said,
“I'm so happy to be back for another season and excited to continue building with this group and see what we can achieve together this year! Go Zebs!”
We are looking forward to having Mel back on board for the 2026 campaign!
