Last Time They Met: Round 15, 2017 – Sandringham 14.11 (95) DEF BY Box Hill 22.10 (142)
Following the bye and hoping to make amends following a loss to the reigning premiers, Sandringham will take on ladder leaders Box Hill this Saturday afternoon at 2pm. The Zebras will travel out to Box Hill City Oval to face the currently undefeated Hawks for the Blue Ribbon Cup.
Round three saw the Zebras suffer their first loss for the season at home against Port Melbourne. Sandy were really strong through their first three quarters, and took it to the reigning premiers for most of the game, but let it go in the final term. Brede Seccull returned from injury, and played a standout match with 31 touches and 10 tackles. Tom Lamb also played extremely well, kicking 5 goals to keep the Zebras in the game.
Box Hill retained their winning streak despite a slow start and are yet to drop a match for the season. They faced Coburg before the bye and managed to turn the game around in the second half, after conceding five of the first seven goals. Teia Miles was awarded best on ground with 23 possessions and 14 kicks off half back, moving the ball well. He took seven marks, all of which were uncontested.
The Zebras will be hoping to end the Hawks’ undefeated run as possibly the most challenging team they will have faced so far in the 2018 season. In order to get the four points, Sandringham will need to play four quarters of tough, contested football. Box Hill needs to have a better start to their game than last week, but the Zebras will be wanting to shut them down quickly by making it more of a contested match.
Injured Saint Nathan Freeman will be coming back from injury this week, and can hopefully give the Zebras an edge.
