Leon Alao is back for 2026
21/12/2025
The Sandringham Football Club is excited to announce that Leon Alao has re-signed for the 2026 season.
A long-standing and highly respected member of the Zebras community, Alao has been part of the Sandringham program since first becoming a train on in 2022, earning his first contract in 2023. A former member of St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy, his journey has been one of persistence and resilience, with injury setbacks limiting his opportunities across several seasons.
After being a train on again in 2024, Alao was rewarded for his commitment when he earned a contract mid-season in 2025. This year marked his first opportunity to play a consistent block of football, featuring in 11 games for University Blacks and continuing to build momentum and confidence.
While he is yet to make his VFL debut for the Zebs, Alao’s impact around the Club has been significant. A natural leader and mentor to younger players, he is highly regarded for his professionalism and positivity within the playing group. He also showcased his talent during our practice match against Tasmania in May, where he made a strong impact off half-back.
Speaking on his re-signing, Alao said,
“I’m super grateful to be signed at Sandy again and I’m keen to be a part of what this new group of players and coaching staff can achieve in 2026.”
We’re excited to see Leon continue his journey and look forward to seeing him running around in the yellow, black and blue very soon.
